My Hero Academia 378: Heroes From The Past

The following contains spoilers for My Hero Academia Chapter 378, “The Story Of How We All Became Heroes: Part 4,” by Kohei Horikoshi, translated by Caleb Cook available in English from Viz Media.

My Hero Academia 378 returned with a phenomenal chapter and built on what fans witnessed in the previous chapter of the story. The last chapter ended with the return of La Brava and her helping to take over the UA again, thanks to her exceptional hacking skills. Fans expected the process to be completed in this week’s chapter, and that’s exactly what happened. Along with her, some other characters from the past appeared in an attempt to stop the delightful villains once again.

This war is now coming to an end, and with each passing chapter, Horikoshi seems to be trying his best to end the conflict in the best way possible. Undoubtedly, this chapter was very well handled and if it is anything to go by, fans will surely love what comes next as well. With many old characters appearing, My Hero Academia 378 was absolutely a delight.

La Brava continues its mission

Earlier, fans saw La Brava attempt to hack into the UA and stop it from moving as the villains wanted. Given her skill level, this was a piece of cake for her. Fans also got a glimpse into her old life when she was a shut-in, and back then she used to do things like hacking for fun. Now she’s using her skills to save the whole world, and that’s absolutely incredible for a character like hers. La Brava then proceeded to take full control of the island, prompting the lieutenant of the Paranormal Liberation Front to run to escape, only to be met with Heroes on the other side waiting for him. Now it seems that the UA has full control over the heroes, but there is another predicament that they must solve.

Given that there is no roof over the island at the moment and La Brava needs time to gain absolute control of its movements, the island is in free fall and will destroy everyone and potentially even large parts of the city below within seconds. While many thought this was it for both the heroes and many of the villains, another character from the past appeared and proceeded to save the day, and it’s one that many fans expected to appear sooner rather than later, and that is the Gentle Criminal.

Mild appears

Gentle is a former villain that not many fans are as fond of, but his character is quite gentlemanly compared to other villains in history. After all, his crimes were never that serious, to begin with. Despite being trapped in Tartarus for quite some time, Gentle stopped everyone from his facility from escaping, thus helping the Heroes in a great way. Mild had realized the folly of his ways and began to believe in Midoriya with all his heart. As such, he completely changed his destiny and became a different man. Stopping every villain trying to escape Tartarus, Gentle proceeded to ask for a favor, and this was simply to get closer to the one he loved, La Brava, who was also in love with him, as fans saw in the Cultural Festival – the arch.

Gentle appeared in front of the falling island and used Quirk to create a giant trampoline out of thin air, stopping the entire island in the process. This just shows that his Quirk has grown extremely stronger than it once was and possibly even undergone reawakening. Stopping an entire island for himself, Gentle tried to free himself from his past and try to live a better life with La Brava. His goal of being a hero is also something that was fulfilled in the process, and from here on out he can only continue to do even better for himself and La Brava in his life.

An old enemy appears

My Hero Academya 378 was certainly filled to the brim with characters of the old and Gentle and La Brava weren’t the only two who managed to make a mark in this week’s chapter of history. While Midoriya celebrated Gentle’s return by simply hearing about the Quirk being used to stop the island from crashing, Shigaraki only grew stronger, now that Monoma and Aizawa could no longer keep his Quirks at bay. His powers were greater than ever now, and just as he tried to cause widespread destruction with them, his hand was torn from his body by a projectile that fans are very familiar with.

Just a second later a familiar face appeared and it was none other than Lady Nagant. She played a significant role in the series earlier and even made a big impression on Midoriya. Her powers are absolutely enormous, and with them she can help a lot in the fight. Nagant has now joined the action, and it will be interesting to see where Horikoshi takes things from here. For now, she has started helping Deku, and things can only get better for him from here on out.
