Prevent condensation and mold in winter with a cheap hack
In addition to condensation, not turning on the heating means that the washing can take longer than usual to dry, if a household does not have a tumble dryer or does not want to use one. Having wet clothes hanging around can also lead to mold. Fortunately, Mrs Hinch fans have shared cheap and effective ways to prevent condensation and mold during the winter months.
Mrs Hinch is a cleaning influencer with over four million followers on Instagram. She is so popular that cleaning enthusiasts have created Facebook pages in her honor.
On one such page, with over 100,000 members, a Mrs. Hinch fan wanted to know if she should buy a dehumidifier to dry her washed clothes and prevent mold.
Teigan Kemp wrote: “Hi, I’m currently using spare rooms to house the airer for my laundry as I refuse to turn on the heat to dry all the washing I do.
“I’m looking into getting a dehumidifier to prevent mold in the bedroom. Due to the obvious increase in cost, I’m wondering if the dehumidifiers pictured are effective or if I’d be better off buying an electric one.”

Sharon Milnes recommended using these types of dehumidifiers in the bedroom, saying: “I use these in my bedroom to keep condensation at bay and prevent mould. Worth a try for the cost of them. Try and if it doesn’t work, try other options. “
Tracey Clements commented: “I’ve been using them for years now and they work a treat, usually from B&M.”
Sophie Rebecca Pattinson said: “These worked well in my old house, they were very efficient and the condensation was quite bad! Definitely worth trying first and seeing if it works for you.”

Sue Sims Broady recommended: “These are great for small spaces, I’ve used them in closets with success. However, I recently bought a dehumidifier with a washer function and it’s been a game changer.”
Anne McSherry shared: “You can buy a lot cheaper in pound shops etc. But I swear by them.”

But other Mrs Hinch fans recommended investing in an electric dehumidifier, rather than the crystals.
Vicky Wilkinson recommended: “Get an electric with a wash setting, these are better for windowsills and general condensation.”
Sarah Bean said: “It would work, but an electric would work faster to dry the clothes and obviously wouldn’t need to be changed.”
Carolyn Hamer wrote: “Definitely electric for drying clothes, but I find them useful on windowsills and areas where condensation gets trapped.”
Nicola Loveridge added: “I’ve only used an electric but I think these would fill up really quickly if you use them when drying clothes so I think you’d be better off in the long run with an electric. I don’t think they cost a lot to run.”
