Why hacks for Fortnite are growing at an alarming rate

Hacks for Fortnite are a troubling problem. Ever since the game debuted to a massive audience in 2017, players have been desperately trying to find some way to gain an advantage, including hacking or cheating.

Epic Games has kept the game equally winnable for everyone, and they want to keep it that way. Fairness is a big deal for the company, so hacking or cheating is highly frowned upon and often results in player bans, but they continue to do it anyway.

The company’s never-ending efforts to prevent players from gaining an advantage have only served to push the hackers to try even harder. Additionally, with the growth of technology (perhaps helped by the fact that the game now runs on Unreal Engine 5), even more hacks for Fortnite are coming out.

Epic Games has handed out lifetime bans to players for cheating. They do not condone it in any way, shape or form. Unfortunately, it seems to have had the opposite effect.

Instead of forcing players to play legitimately, it’s forced some of them (not all, since Epic’s zero-tolerance policy isn’t a total failure) to get even more creative.

Unfortunately, there is no way for Epic Games to fix this. Hacks for Fortnite will always be available, so they just have to keep handing out punishments as soon as they see cheats and keep doing what they can to make them ineffective.

Epic owns one of the best anti-cheat systems in all of gaming; Unfortunately, it’s still not enough to completely remove the problem.

What does Epic Games say about cheating in Fortnite?

Epic’s Community Guidelines clearly state how they feel about cheating. They also disapprove of bullying, harassment and a laundry list of other issues facing the game’s players, but are very clear about their stance on hacking and cheating:

“Play fair and within the rules of the game. Don’t cheat, trick, create or exploit bugs and glitches. Don’t promote or advertise known cheats, bugs or exploits. Find an exploit? Report it.”

Epic has designed the game so that no one can gain an advantage. That’s why no cosmetic does anything to the gameplay that can be even slightly beneficial. When something like this occurs, they remove or patch it as soon as possible.

When it comes to cheating, there are different levels of punishment:

“Player bans are applied on an individual basis and range from temporary bans to permanent bans. Temporary bans last up to 30 days and players will be able to board the Battle Bus after the specified time.”

They also stated:

“Fortnite permanent bans are indefinite and are given when a player is caught cheating, for example. While a player is banned, they can still play other games on the Epic Games Store.”

These are severe penalties, but they may also need to become more severe if the rise of hacks for Fortnite continues.
